A DC-DC converter converts one DC voltage to another. A Buck Converter outputs a lower voltage than the original voltage. An isolated DC-DC converter will have a high frequency transformer providing a barrier, separating the input voltage and the output voltage. This barrier can withstand surging voltage from a few hundred volts to several thousand volts, is required bt many safety agency bodies and (or) customers.
